EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer rubber) has many advantage for automotive sealing. One of it biggest advantages is its ability to stand up to the environment. It provides outstanding resistance to UV exposure, ozone, moisture, and weathering, making it ideal for components that spend years exposed to the elements. EPDM also performs well across a wide temperature range, remaining flexible in cold conditions while maintaining its sealing properties in elevated temperatures commonly found in automotive applications.

Another reason EPDM is so widely used is its cost. Compared to higher-performance elastomers like silicone, fluorosilicone, FKM (Viton®), and HNBR, EPDM is generally one of the most cost-effective materials available. While those materials excel in applications involving extreme temperatures or exposure to fuels and aggressive chemicals, they also come with a significantly higher material cost. For applications where excellent weather resistance, water resistance, and long-term durability are the primary requirements, EPDM often delivers the best overall value.

Because of these characteristics, EPDM rubber gaskets are used throughout modern vehicles. Common applications include electrical connector seals, HVAC gaskets, weather seals, cable pass-through grommets, battery sealing components, and many other interior and exterior sealing solutions. Its excellent compression set resistance also helps maintain a reliable seal over time, reducing the risk of leaks and improving long-term performance.

At Morgan Polymer Seals, we manufacture custom EPDM rubber gaskets for a wide variety of automotive applications. Our engineers work closely with customers to optimize both the gasket design and manufacturing process, helping deliver reliable sealing performance while keeping production efficient. From prototype development through high-volume production, we help customers choose the right material for both performance and cost.

The examples below highlight just a small sample of the EPDM rubber gaskets we've produced for automotive customers. Every application has its own requirements, but each gasket is designed with the same goal: delivering dependable sealing performance at a competitive cost.

If you're looking for a custom EPDM rubber gasket for your next automotive program, our team is ready to help with material selection, design support, and manufacturing expertise from concept through production.
