Rubber Seal Maker Develops Advanced Inspection Technology
VISION INSPECTION HELPS FORD SUPPLIER ACHIEVE ZERO PPM WITH TOTAL AND REPEATABLE ACCURACY
Baja California (March 30, 2020) – Morgan Polymer Seals announced today the successful implementation of five new automated Vision Inspection machines that inspect rubber seals before delivery to OEM customers. Over the last year, the mid-sized manufacturer has invested over $800,000 into developing and implementing this custom technology, which sets a new standard for quality assurance in the automotive gasket industry.
Typical manual inspection methods are relatively cumbersome and achieve only 80% accuracy. In contrast, Vision Inspection uses 3-D lasers and high-speed cameras to identify and sort out parts with even the most subtle irregularities. The machines also work quickly, with some programs inspecting three to six parts, per second. Morgan has successfully implemented the innovation to inspect a wide range of seals, from simple o-rings, to more complex parts, such as over-molded plastic carrier gaskets.
Engineer and Head of Automation, Leonardo Meza, programmed the inspection systems and comments,
So far, the new machines have inspected over 100 million rubber seals delivered to global automakers like Volkswagen, Ford, GM, and FCA.
